Spring/Summer 2013 Inspirations: Retro Rebellion

Some may say that steampunk is way out of the ordinary for their taste but I sure like its uniqueness. It is a breath of fresh air or you may want to say air that carries the smell of machines and steam, the feel of mystery and romance. Remember the fascinating stories of Sherlock Holmes, the books of Jules Verne and Robert Louis Stevenson? Have you ever opened an old watch trying to put the little gadgets together?

Steampunk is not only a subculture; it is a state of mind, fantasy and rebellion against the ordinary. Finding romance in technology, the appeal of the Victorian retro elegance, reusing things from everyday life in a new way to create a new post-modern look is only part of the idea behind the steampunk movement. It is also about the power of the human imagination and intellect. And if you want to take it one step further to make your ideas reflect in your designs, you can do that – old watches, leather belts and straps, buckles, goggles and gadgets of different kinds, hats and clothes with a Victorian feel all describe the “steampunk” look. So this is the inspiration behind the “Retro Rebellion “color palette.

The colors in it – rust and gold, maroon and blue, khaki and grayish brown, are colors of equal importance – they are darker for the season to create a more timeless and universal impression. And if you want to add a touch of bright color to your palette you can’t go wrong – it is all about freeing your imagination!
