Spring/Summer 2013 Inspirations: Sunflowers

Of the three primary colors, blue and red have been more popular for the last few seasons and we’ve seen great variations of these colors on the runways and in stores, but yellow often tends to take a backseat. I feel this will change to a great extent with the onset of the spring/summer season. We see that golden yellows have already been an important part of fall color palettes. This trend will continue into the spring and summer with greater variety. Yellow will take the place it deserves this year both with splashes of color and in other more bold varieties. It is such a joyful hue, a little difficult to wear, maybe but paired with the right colors it will be the color to LOVE.

This past summer I took some time to visit family in Europe and was enchanted with the time spent along the Danube River.  I must say that I would not replace my time there with any exotic vacation anywhere in the world. Call me sentimental, but I love my home. Well, on second thought – I would be happy to take both – my home and an exotic vacation. My grandfather was a fisherman and my uncles continued this tradition. This summer it was great to see them teaching our kids the ritual of fishing – ritual that takes a great deal of  patience and skill. I loved watching the boats and the river and I soaked in the serene silence and the feel of the warm sand on my bare feet. It was there – on the riverbank in the heat of the summer afternoon that I saw the sunflowers – lots of them – with their yellow heads facing the sun – perfectly designed – perfectly tough and yet, perfectly beautiful. It is this story of strength, beauty and toughness that inspires us this season at CSI. We all long for beauty in our lives and the comfort to know that we can all pull together in times of need. We turn to the sun and we see the beauty that lies around us and wonder why we would ever consider putting yellow anywhere but in the very center of our color world.
